UPCOMING: Abracadabra Exhibition

The Arts and Culture Center of Hollywood opened their annual Abracadabra fundraiser exhibition/raffle on January 26 and man, what a lineup!  A lot of great artists from around the Miami/Hollywood area donated pieces to the cause, and it is a wonderful opportunity to acquire some beautiful work for a good price!  Check out the Abrcadabra page for more info on how to buy tickets, and don't forget to take a peek at the gallery to see whats up for grabs!  I donated the last painting from my Hollyhood Scope series that commemorated my mural right down the street.  The raffle event is February 21, so dont miss out!

VISIT FLORIDA: Viva Sweepstakes Site

Visit Florida is now one of our biggest accounts here at the Miami Sapient offices and though the big stuff is mostly commercials and print and larger web experiences, we still do all of their smaller things too.  I put together this little site for their VIVA Sweepstakes and it just went live.

http://win.visitflorida.com/visitflorida13/viva500/home

We have to build off of template sites for some of these things, but I had so much fun making the cover image!  I got to dig through tons of old black and white photos from our state archive...people waterskiing in pyramids, fishing in creeks, holding out fish for dolphins to grab through hoops, and of course 1950s bathing babes and family beach time.  SO FUN!!!  I eventually got to grab this one, color it in and play with it a bit...then I added a little type treatment inspired by old postcards, while still using their brand font.  So yeah...totally awesome!  Its nice when you get these side pieces that you can play with, so I wanted to share :)

Oh and dont forget to enter to win a Florida Vacation!!!  They are giving one away for our State's 500th Anniversary this year!

NFA'S WRECKHALL: Rudy Duboue Collabo 1

For the last few weeks, I have been working on a special little project for the boys over at NFA.  Their new weekly party, WRECKHALL at Chalk, has become the best spot on the beach to catch good local vibes with my favorite local DJs (Keen One, Louie Arson and TonyG).

Every week my friend, the incredibly talented Rudy Duboue, has been snapping candid party shots that are so sick I started to draw them for the flyers (check out the pary pics here).  I pick my favorite image from the previous week and freak it on some Jessy Nite Tropical steez for the flyers.  Here are the ones I've done so far:

Check out Rudy's incredible fashion work on his blog here and come out to the party this and EVERY THURSDAY NIGHT at Chalk: 1234 Washington Ave!  Going Out Is Fun Again!!!

BASEL-TOV!!! Cover for Miami New Times Basel Guide

The Miami New Times got in touch with me right before the big B came to town and asked me to do their cover for the annual Basel Guide issue.  I wanted to draw something that represents the excitement that Basel brings to town, so I freaked some lambos, money, spray paint confetti and other little goodies, then wrapped em up with the Basel Tov headline/concept...I was so siked to present it to them and I couldn't believe that they just let me go for it!  SO DOPE!!!

Needless to say it was super rad to see it all over town, both in newspaper stands and the hands of everyone from locals to fancy collectors hanging outside of the convention center.  THANK YOU SO MUCH, NEW TIMES!!!  I only hope that I am lucky enough to do another one some time :)

UNDER THE SCOPE: the main event!

Here are some pics from my fully interactive, experiential installation for Basel week 2012, Under The Scope.  Being stationed on Washington Avenue was really cool...we had so many passers-by stop to play!  Annnd, since South Beach is my home, it was great to do something on this side of the bridge.  Take a look at these shots from Peter Vahan, and stay tuned for a behind-the-scenes video coming soon!!!

A big huge thank you to everyone who came out and gave the scope a spin!  Also, major props to William Ryan Fritch for his original soundtrack that accompanied the piece, and to my tech genius, Alain Lores.  I am lucky to call them both friends and colleagues, and each of their contributions made my idea come to life in the most amazing way.  But most of all, mega thanks to everyone at Chalk Miami who believed in this idea and made it all possible!!!

HOLLYHOOD SCOPE: paintings series

Hollyhood Scope - 1, 2 and 3....9 in x 11 in, Acrylic on Paper

To commemorate the official completion of my contribution to the Downtown Hollywood Mural Project, I have released a small series of jeweled paintings!  Just three in the series, each piece is a finely detailed kaleidoscopic composition made from the same original drawing as that on the building.

I wanted to make something easy to hang and easy to live with (unlike a lot of my mega installations haha).  Framed and measuring 9 in x 11 in, I have to say these are three of my best pieces to date...they are so suuuuper clean that people keep asking if they're prints.  They're not!  They're just done with a lotttta luv.  So go to the webstore and get em while you can!

And keep up the kaleidoscoping vibezzzzz by coming to my interactive, multi media installation for Basel this year: Under The Scope.  Details here...

DOWNTOWN HOLLYWOOD MURAL PROJECT: finito!

Well I am so excited to say I am finally DONE with the building I painted for the Downtown Hollywood Mural Project.  I had so much fun on this piece....meeting the locals, eating at some of the awesome spots on the strip, and getting to work with a super tight team to put it all together.  I also got to spend time with fellow mural-ers Ruben Ubiera and Luis Pinto...Bonus!!!

Special thanks to the Community Redevelopment Agency for making this process so easy for me and for giving the community something so nice.  Everyone was asking me if I was painting a jewelry store, or if it was for the bike shop etc., but when I told them it was for the city they were all really siked.

Also, thank you soooo much to Rose of "Rose's Place" (the hair salon next door)...you are so damn cute and your support and cheering me on really made me feel good.  And of course thank you to Reed from New Age Cycles...such a good dude and such an awesome store...go check him out!!!

I really enjoyed getting to know them and will miss seeing them every weekend.

Of course my dream team supreme of Jill Weisburg, Brittney Henriquez and photog Peter Vahan really made it all happen...thanks guys for making this so damn fun!  Peter has been documenting the entire project and will be putting together a video, so keep ur eyes peeled for that!!!

UNDER THE SCOPE: Miami Art Basel 2012

Miami-based artist Jessy Nite has forged a reputation for creating site-specific experiences that challenge and inspire viewers.  Launching during Miami’s fair week on Thursday, December 6 at 9:00 p.m. at 1234 Washington Avenue, Miami Beach, her latest show Under The Scope will again offer a window into Nite’s world of opulence, excess, addiction and tropical dreams.

"I've been painting kaleidoscopic images of things that cloud my head... wealth, excess, vice,” said Nite.  “With Under The Scope, I wanted to go beyond showing their representations and toward making them feel real."

A large kaleidoscope revealing the objects of Nite’s affection will be affixed to the sidewalk on Washington at 12th Street, inviting guests to take it for a spin.  With live video and projection mapping, the user will be immersed in the visuals of the scope as they’re broadcasted on one of Miami Beach's historic Art Deco buildings.

Nite explains, "I want people to feel powerful and dreamy when they use my kaleidoscope.  With giant swirling compositions of jewels, drugs and color, they’ll be entering the imaginary world from which I create.”

Following an explosive year with exhibitions and installations at Primary Projects, the Color Me Porno pop-up, Miami Modern Luxury’s 5th Anniversary and most recently, a City Commission by Hollywood’s Community Redevelopment Agency, Under the Scope is Nite's first step into the digital side of experiential contemporary art.  "My work as a digital art director has brought so many talented tech specialists into my creative space, and I have been plotting interactive art experiences with them in mind.  I'm excited for this opportunity to leap into a new medium."

Under the Scope opens with full interactivity on Thursday, December 6 from 9pm-3am, with complimentary cocktails and a reception hosted by Chalk Miami and NFA.  Live video from the event will be captured and displayed on site both Friday and Saturday night, December 7 and 8 from 9pm-5am.

JESSY NITE X TROPICULT: Interactive Digital Takeover!

Local culture blog, Tropicult.com, has been working to bring together traditional artists and the digital medium.  With a couple artists already lined up (including my buddy Gustavo Oviedo), the first project launched TODAY with yours truly!

I wanted to make a couple simple but fun rollovers that were bright, tropical and total raaaaadical drawings you would've found on my high school text book covers.  So, go try it out!!!  Give it a sec to load up before you start, but roll over the logo, waves, and more for a little Jessy Nite style fun.

ooh!  Annnnd Tropicult is throwing a party to celebrate!  Heres the info...dont miss it :D

LOCUST PROJECTS, MIAMI: Smash And Grab

Dropout, Approx 40in x 6in, Wood and Spraypaint

Awesome Miami gallery, Locust Projects, held their annual fundraiser, Smash & Grab last week.  They invite certain artists to donate a piece, and then put them up all over the walls salone style.  Then, one by one, they draw names of the collectors who purchased a ticket and the collectors run around and put their name on whatever piece caught their eye.  Its always really funny to see everyone trying to grab the best pieces and getting cray cray over it...its such a blast!  Heres a shot of my Dropout piece (originally from my solo show, Bad As I Wanna Be) from the event, and you can check this link to see more pics from the night!

HOLLYHOOD MURAL: Day 2

After a little delay while waiting for my paint to get mixed and the rain to stop, I finally got started painting on Day 2 this past weekend!  Fall is FINALLY happening in South Florida and man...it was a gorgeous day to spend 12 hours painting on a lift.  I stayed late for Hollywood's Artwalk to see some neighbors and friends out in the neighborhood and I also got to see my friends' brand new baby, Jonah!  Coming to my mural was his official first outing...sweeeeet.

Anyway...Heres a look at things through the eyes of Pete Vahan...we got to do some fun night time filming, too...cant wait til he starts putting the footage together for a vid!!!

UPCOMING: Downtown Hollywood Mural Project

Starting this month (October 2012) I will be a featured artist in the new Downtown Hollywood Mural Project!  Lebo kicked it off in August, and Ruben Ubiera has been cranking his piece out for September, and finally THIS WEEKEND I will get to start mine!  Read about it here.

The building at 1901 Harrsion Street is the most beautiful space to work with, so I put together a site specific execution of my colorful, kaleidoscoping diamonds and bold black and white lines to complement the corner of the historic downtown block.  I used to work around the corner from the building years ago, so I am really looking forward to getting back into the Hollywood funkkkk!

To commemorate the building, I will be releasing a series of small acrylic on paper pieces that will be available through my webstore on October 20th, the same night that I will be painting during the Downtown Hollywood Artwalk.  So, come on out and follow me on Instagram @JessyNite for process photos, progress and all of the craziness inbetween!

I will keep you posted about the event on the 20th!  CANT WAIT TO PAINT...WOOP WOOOOOP!
